Irene kills the box office
Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on the box office this weekend, making it impossible for scores of people to go anywhere, let alone to the movies! A lot of theaters actually had to shut down due to the bad weather. So this was the worst box office of the year, only making about $72 million.
The Help kept its first spot, second week in a row, but with only $14.3 million. Pretty assassin Zoe Saldana managed to rake in $10 million with the Luc Besson movie Colombiana, which awarded them second place. Guillermo del Toro's remake Don't be afraid of the dark made its debut as well and came in third with $8.7 million. Rise of the planet of the apes scraped in fourth and the new Paul Rudd comedy Our idiot brother came in fifth with $6,6 million.
